An apprentice at St Anthony’s Pharmacy in Newcastle is celebrating a double success as a reward for his hard work.

Ryan Grieves, customer service apprentice, came runner up at The Gateshead Council learningSkills awards in July and then passed his apprenticeship just weeks later with distinctions across the board. Ryan has worked through the current pandemic providing the pharmacies customers with great service during what has been an upsetting time.

Ryan was due to take his exam in May but this was cancelled due to COVID-19 but when it came around he passed with the highest of outcomes.  Ryan’s assessor Linda Coulby said ‘He always completed his work ahead of time and put effort into his role to gain respect from all those who have worked with him.  This industry took on a frontline role during lockdown and services increase by around 35%.  His manager noted recently that Ryan’s learnt skills were put into practice and has helped support the pharmacy and its service users.’

Ryan is now a qualified member of the pharmacy and has been offered a full time role.

The government are currently offering £3,000 cash incentives for employers to recruit apprentices between 16-18 years of age, with grants available for those 19+ too.
