Paper Kiln Firing Fun at Bensham Grove

The Potters, Silversmiths and volunteers at Bensham Grove haven’t let the Coronavirus get in the way of an exciting plan to create a new studio for budding local potters at Bensham Grove Community Centre. The two groups have raised funds for plans to be drawn up by Newcastle based architects Ainsworth Spark.

Gateshead learningSkills Community and Family Learning teams are offering 2 short Sunday courses (22.11.20 & 29.11.20) to give local people the opportunity to view some of the early sketches and imagine their own version of a new pottery. Participants will also be invited to reflect on their lockdown experiences and build a paper kiln to fire on the site where the new pottery will be constructed.

All the activities offered will comply with social distancing requirements; places will be limited and pre-booking is essential. Courses will be free. There will also be an opportunity to attend the course remotely and receive a materials pack to make your pottery at home.
