Community Activator Coach (Sports)


We are a primary special school based in central Gateshead. The post holder will be required to learn and be given training in the required skills and responsibilities of a PE/ Teaching Apprentice over the term of the apprenticeship to then be able to undertake the full range of duties listed below at the conclusion of the Apprenticeship.

Role and Responsibilities

Provide high quality sports coaching during and after school to help raise attainment, support to help improve competitive sport provision, delivering, planning and evaluating PE lessons and sport activities alongside the class teacher and PE subject lead.

supporting pupil premium children as directed, acting as a in class teaching assistant along with supporting the school hen needed in its day to day duties including supporting during play time.

develop an understanding of school ethos, policies and procedures, raising any concerns in a timely manner. demonstrate a commitment to developing personal skills in accordance with the apprentice framework. meet deadlines associated to progression through the full apprenticeship period, complete assignments/projects which relate to the apprenticeship framework to meet target dates.

Numeracy and literacy skills.

Ability to develop knowledge, experience of practices and procedures in school.

Knowledge and experience of a wide range of PE equipment, games and activities.

Required Qualifications

Maths, English and ICT, GCSE Grade 4-9 or equivalent.


· Maths and English to Level 2 required, if not already achieved

· Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour in relation to: customer service principles and practices, business principles, technical competencies, knowledge and understating; research activities, commercial awareness, managing challenging situations and taking ownership, and health and safety.

· Ongoing assessment by the employer and provider – for example meetings with apprentice, employer and learning provider, observations of workplace, gathering evidence.

Undertake a self-assessment in the last month of their apprenticeship to enable them to see whether they are confident that they have taken on board all aspects of the occupation. This self-assessment must be submitted to the independent end point assessor as a source of evidence to prepare for independent End Point Assessment which will include a showcase portfolio; a project; an employer reference and a structured interview about their portfolio and project.
