Higher Level Teaching Assistant Status

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or Early Years Practitioner who wants to progress in their career? This course is ideal if you want to gain a recognised teaching status which will allow you to demonstrate your practical skills, knowledge and understanding. You will have to demonstrate competency in 33 national teaching standards, including teaching whole classes without a qualified teacher present. You will be required to be working in a school and have the support of the Head teacher and a mentor to support you throughout the programme.

What is the Programme Content?

You will be invited to 3 classroom-based preparation sessions (over the period of a full school term) and will have access to a variety of online resources to support your learning. You will complete a variety of assignments / tasks and build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding. Tasks will include: * Working with an Individual * Working with a small group * Working with a whole class (without the qualified teacher present) * A selection of events / scenarios to meet national standards There are a selection of school based interviews with yourself, your class teacher and the Headteacher which will contribute to the evidence required to meet the standards.

What prior experience and knowledge do I need?

*Level 3 Teaching Assistant or Early Years Practitioner qualification *Level 2 English qualification (GCSE Grade C or above / Level 2 functional Skills / adult literacy certificate or equivalent) *Level 2 Mathematics qualification (GCSE Grade C or above / Level 2 functional Skills / adult numeracy certificate or equivalent) *Current practical experience of supporting children and young people in an educational setting. *Currently working in a school or nursery *Support of the Headteacher and a mentor within school

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by an independent assessor against 33 national teaching standards. In order to meet these standards you will complete 8 written tasks / assignments and build a portfolio of product evidence. You will be interviewed by the assessor along with your class teacher and Head teacher.

Is the programme accredited?
