About 10 years ago, Christine was looking for something creative to do in her spare time. She enrolled on our Beginners Silversmithing course.
“Bensham Grove is a really inspirational place to learn, it has many original arts and crafts features including William Morris glass and tiles. It is also a very nurturing, supportive place to learn with a strong sense of community”, said Christine.
From Silversmithing, here at learningSkills, we had developed a new Higher Education Foundation Course in Creative Crafts which included Fused Glass, Ceramics and Silversmithing.
“I made friends for life and learned so much from the other women on my course, we had come from different making backgrounds and brought different skills”, said Christine.
From this, Christine finished with a distinction in 2019 and gained a place at Sunderland University on the BA Artist, Designer, Maker course based at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
She is now aged 55 and is following her dream to be an artist. She loved her experience with us so much, she now volunteers at Bensham Grove as a History Guide and an events volunteer.
“It really has changed mine and lots of others lives.”
