We have had more updates on how learners have been working hard and having fun with our community learning courses during social distancing.

Comfort Crafts is a remote course which helps make a difference to learners’ lives through arts and crafts. The course uses arts and crafts as therapy to help our mental health which is very important during this time.

Elaine Crompton, Chris Nevis and Fredrique Wery have supported learners on this course by sending craft packs through the post and staying in contact while learners are at home.

Learners have been making mosaic tiles, cross stitch bookmarks and stained glass pictures. They have also been drawing and colouring with the resources in the craft packs. Tutors contact them regularly over the telephone and update them on how they are doing.

One of the learners, Andrew Hannant, has kindly sent us pictures of some of his wonderful creations from the course.

Feedback from the learners has been excellent. Here are some of the comments we have received:

“I am loving life because I have lots to do making beautiful crafts.”

“I enjoy the crafts as they keep my mind busy and it makes me feel good about myself.”

“It makes my life worth living and I don’t feel so isolated and I feel like I have friends who care. It’s so important to keep in contact. Thank you.”

“The craft packs calm my nerves and I really appreciate the phone calls and the lovely person that rings me every week to see how I am and to see if I need anything.”

“I love the crafts they keep me busy; it makes me happy and they brighten up my room. I’m ready for more crafts.”

“The course takes my mind off things and calms me down and since starting the crafts I have been inspired to do more but different crafts like knitting.”

It is important to maintain good mental health and wellbeing during isolation. One good way of doing this is by taking part in a remote learning course. These courses allow learners to keep in contact and develop confidence.
