Patternmaking for Creative Wellbeing
On this course you will get an opportunity to draft a pattern and make a toile using your own body measurements. You will learn how to read and use symbols in pattern cutting as well learning how to measure your own body correctly. You will be making a toile to check the fitting, adjust if necessary and then go on to make your final garment.

What is the Programme Content?
You will take your own measurements and follow step-by-step instructions to draft a bodice block. You will trace a working pattern and sew a toile to test the fit of your pattern. You will make up the full-scale pattern from calico so you can realise the 2D pattern to 3D. You will explore basic fitting techniques to fit your toile and transfer the information back to your working pattern after the fitting. Lay and cut the pattern correctly. Construct your garment with a professional looking finish. Basic sewing skills are essential. You will then complete a master pattern from which you can create other designs.
Who is it for?
For those who would like to learn to make patterns from scratch, instead of spending a fortune on buying commercial patterns.
What prior experience and knowledge do I need?
Basic sewing skills.
What materials or equipment do I need to provide?
Basic sewing kit and pattern making kit. Your tutor will discuss more on the course. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer.
What materials or equipment do we provide to you?
Sewing machines, over-lockers, sewing equipment and notions, and pattern making equipment. A qualified, experienced and helpful tutor, with plenty of knowledge to share in a fun and safe environment.
How will I be assessed?
Your tutor will discuss and observe you during the course so that maximum amount of support and guidance can be provided to help you achieve your own personal goals. You will also complete an Individual Learning Plan to record your performance and feedback each week. Your tutor will use a range of different teaching, learning methods and assess your learning which may include quizzes, question and answer and discussions. You will be encouraged to share your work with the group, consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions in a supportive environment.
