Pottery for Creative Wellbeing
A ceramics course to suit all beginners and advanced learners with an emphasis on wellbeing and the beneficial effects of working creatively with clay. The course will cover a range of different hand building techniques, the potter’s wheel and a wide variety of decorative methods. You will be encouraged to explore your own ideas but also follow basic instructions to develop your own personalised projects, and create unique and beautiful ceramic pieces.

What is the Programme Content?
This course will give beginners an opportunity to learn a new skill, and for the more advanced learners to increase knowledge in different ceramic techniques. We will be covering coiling, slab building, throwing, turning and a few different surface decorations, using tools, slips and underglazes. Due to the wellbeing nature of the class, we will also be talking as a group and setting some personal goals to help us improve our lifestyle through art and relaxation.

What prior experience and knowledge do I need?
No prior experience is needed for this course.
What materials or equipment do I need to provide?
You do not need to bring any specific equipment, but it might be wise to wear old clothing suitable for a pottery environment. We do supply aprons, but you might want to bring your own. You also may want to purchase your own tools in time.
What materials or equipment do we provide to you?
We provide all tools and materials you will need, including clay, glazes, stains, etc, including the use of the kilns. There is a material charge for this class which equals to £35 for the 10 week course.
How will I be assessed?
Your tutor will provide and coach you with continuous support and guidance throughout the course to enhance your skills’ development with the use of ILP’s (individual learning plans) and visual assessment.
