What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a paid work placement where you will be working and studying at the same time with the support of a Tutor and Workplace Mentor. Your responsibilities will start off simple, and as you complete training and gain experience, your role will develop until you are qualified. The study will account for 6 hours of your week can take place either on-site with the employer or off-site with a college/training provider.
How long does an apprenticeship take to complete?
Apprenticeships can last a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 5 years, varying depending on role and industry. As a general rule of thumb the levels of apprenticeship will take:
Level 2
12-18 Months
Level 3
24 Months
Degree
Up to 5 Years
Would I be an employee during my apprenticeship?
Yes, you have the same employee rights as a regular member of staff. The only difference being you will have a contractual end date.
How much will I be paid as an apprentice?
The national minimum wage for apprentices is currently £4.81 per hour for the first 12 months of your apprenticeship. After 12 months, your pay will rise to national minimum wage for your age bracket.
Do I get holidays when I complete an apprenticeship?
You will always receive holidays when completing apprenticeship (minimum of 20 days holiday per year plus national/public holidays). The exact amount may between employers.
Do I have to be aged 16-24 to do an apprenticeship?
No, although apprentices commonly fall into this age bracket, there is no upper age limit for completing an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are becoming a more common option for people looking to switch careers, and for employers looking to develop their existing staff members.
Do you need work experience to get an apprenticeship?
No, you can start an apprenticeship with no work experience at all.
How do I know which apprenticeship to do?

What GCSE Grades do you need to complete an apprenticeship?
You must hold GCSE Maths and English at C/4 or higher, or Functional Skills Level 2. You may be able to complete Functional Skills alongside your apprenticeship, this is subject to the results of an initial assessment.
Will I have to attend day release at college?
It depends on the delivery model of the training provider. For our apprenticeships, you won't have to attend any classroom sessions unless you are completing.
Can I do an apprenticeship whilst at College/Sixth Form?
No, you can only be enrolled with one training provider at a time and apprenticeships are based around full-time employment.
Can I do an apprenticeship working part time hours?
No, you must be working a minimum of 30 hours per week to complete an apprenticeship. This helps build your experience and allows time for your training.
Will I have to do exams?
Most of our apprenticeships don't come with any formal exams, however you will be assessed on your apprenticeship project and portfolio in the closing stages of your apprenticeship.
Can I re-sit GCSE Maths and English?
If you are unable to re-sit Maths and English alongside your apprenticeship. You will be able to complete functional skills with us before moving onto apprenticeships.
