Words From A Former Apprentice

I started working at Park View School in September of 2016, when I was 17 years old. I had finished school and a year of sixth form when I decided to apply for an apprenticeship. Luckily, it was the best decision I made! I didn't have any previous knowledge of administration, or even working in an office, but the support I received from my supervisors and the school as a whole kept me learning and growing during my apprenticeship. There really is a team feel about working in a school such as this, due to being a small social emotional and mental health school, you really get to know everyone, including the students.

I started my 2 year apprenticeship doing general reception/administrative duties such as answering telephone calls, scanning/photocopying and liaising with my supervisor/line manager. Now, 5 and a half years later, I'm 23 years old and my job title is Senior Admin Officer/Exams administrator, and can honestly say I am doing a job that I love.

It can be a daunting experience leaving school and not knowing what to do next, but going through the apprenticeship route has definitely improved my life, personally too. I would not have been able to purchase my car, or buy my own first house without the career that I have. For this, I am so glad I started with an apprenticeship and grateful for the continuous support I receive from the team at Park View School.
