Introduction to Decorative Jewellery Making

On this course you will explore how to make many different types of decorative jewellery. Topics covered will include a selection from the following areas: wire and bead work, UV resin Jewellery, Fimo clay, fabric jewellery, felted jewellery, paper jewellery and Cold connections for jewellery making. You will learn how to thread beads correctly and how to knot pearl strands. You will learn how to create jewellery using UV resin and how to make your own fastenings, so your jewellery is truly unique. We will discuss the type of work that interests the group during session one and the course will be developed around that. This course will be delivered by a fully qualified tutor with several decades of professional experience within the industry.

What is the Programme Content?
Each session will begin with a technical demonstration and often we explore a well known jewellery practitioner. There will be plenty of benchwork time to explore these techniques and discuss ideas with a supportive tutor. H & S will be paramount and embedded throughout the the subject. Techniques will be demonstrated and include wire work, UV resin Jewellery, Fimo clay, fabric jewellery, felted jewellery, paper jewellery, Cold connections for jewellery making. Google Classroom is used to store all course material and is available to view 24/7. It will include videos of your tutor demonstrating techniques, insights into the work of other artists to help with design ideas. Handouts about techniques and H & S.
Who is it for?
For people with an interest in designing and making their own jewellery or decorative art. I would also be suitable for anyone who is interested in developing skills in a different art form. You can come as a complete beginner and build up from the basics, or as a more experienced jewellery maker and explore more advanced techniques. For short periods of time, you will need to wear an FFP level 3 mask The group is very friendly, and everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace with tutor and peer support. Your tutor will enable you to work on projects and techniques of interest to you.

How will I be assessed?
Your tutor will carry out very regular, informal assessments of your work. Feedback will be given to help you develop knowledge and skills to improve your work. You will set your own personal goals, and your tutor will give regular written feedback on those too.
