Painting with Oils for Creative Wellbeing

This course is taught by a professional artist and is aimed at developing your oil painting skills, exploring the ideas, processes, methods and techniques used by traditional artists to create their art.  The course is a mix of learning specific oil painting techniques and processes, alongside considering how art affects our creative wellbeing.  We cover a range topics including: Understanding the basic materials – what to buy, what they are for etc. Basic oil painting skills – if you are new to the course, you will learn specific methods to create a basic painting. We’ll look at understanding the basic layered painting method, in order to understand the basic steps of building an oil painting. Learning specific oil painting techniques, such as scumbles and glazing, to achieve certain effects. Personalised development – once you’ve achieved the basics, you can then personalise your learning to develop skills more suited to your own needs. This can include practising skills from specific artists or developing the use of specific techniques in a self-directed project (this term, the returning learners are looking at painting a landscape and developing colour mixing skills but if you’re new, you can choose a simpler subject)
