This is a watercolours painting class for all abilities. You will be taught by an experienced tutor and supported to develop your knowledge and skills. What is the Programme Content?
On this course you will be able to develop skills and confidence in using a range of watercolour techniques. These will include: • “Wet on wet” to achieve soft blending of colours, • Dry brush techniques to achieve texture and blending in your paintings. • Graded washes to achieve realistic skies and elements of landscape. • Line and wash. • Development of colour mixing skills We will be working from a range of different subject matter including landscape, seascape, portraits, animals and natural forms, you will have the opportunity to focus on subject matter which is of personal interest to you when planning your paintings.
Who is it for?
This course is appropriate for those who are beginners in the subject and also for those who have a little more experience in painting. Individual support will be provided to enable all learners to achieve their potential in each class.
What prior experience and knowledge do I need?
No knowledge/experience required.
What materials or equipment do I need to provide?
• A basic set of watercolour paints this can be a pan set or tubes. These can be purchased for approx. £6.00. • An A3 or A4 pad of watercolour paper 300g paper is a good general paper to start with. • A set of watercolour brushes to include round and flat brushes. A basic set can be purchased for £5.00 - £6.00. • Mixing palette. • HB pencil and eraser. • Masking fluid.
What materials or equipment do we provide to you?
We will provide expert guidance and inspiration. There will be additional materials at the centre for you to try, e.g. water-soluble pencils, pens and ink. These will be available for you to try to see if you like the effects which can be achieved. There will also be a range of subject matter available for you to choose from in each class.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on the progress of your project work and development of individual skills during the course through 1.1 reviews with tutor. You will identify the skills which you would like to achieve at the beginning of the course, and we will review these regularly as the course progresses.

No. This programme is not accredited.
What can I do next?
If you enjoy working with watercolours, you could continue onto the next stage of learning for example an accredited course in the subject.
